Isn’t it fun when inspiration hits you! I saw a post my friend Stephanie put up, of where she had gone to pick blueberries and snapped a photo. These blueberries speak of summer, childhood and just sweetness in general. Love everything about it. I was also really happy to reclaim a canvas that had a painting that wasn’t working on it. I never gesso over canvases. Part of that history can work with the next painting. This one is a perfect example of how well that works. #blueberries #summerfun #fruitart #wildflorida

I posted this video of alligators at the St. Augustine Alligator Farm a bit ago and it has been resonating with a lot of you. I go here regularly to take photos of the wading birds of Florida so that I can paint from my experience. There’s something so primal about these animals. I buy the press pass so that I can come an hour early in the golden hour. It ended up that me and one other person were here by ourselves. It was kind of eerie to hear these guys bellowing and feel the force of it all under my feet. It was so loud the sound was making the bridge I was on move with the vibration. When I paint the wildlife I’m not just painting an image I’m painting an experience. I’m painting the feeling and emotion of being there. I’m going to have to paint some more alligators. They really are the closest thing we have to dinosaurs!🦕🦖 🐊 @staugalligatorfarm today! #gators #everglades #floridalife @friendsoftheeverglades #wildlifeartist

Can’t you just feel the joy in this painting? I heard that these pelicans come down from the North, nest and start their families and return leaving the yearlings here to fend for themselves. They are not strong enough to return home with their parents the first year. I kinda identify with their story. I left home at 17 and moved from Cali to Florida when I was 19. I had to figure out life quickly, and so do these guys. I just love that they band together for feeding. There’s something so community based in that behavior. We do so much alone but we really need our flock to survive who’s your flock? #wildlifeartist #wildlifeart #americanwhitepelican #snowbirds #coastal

I hadn’t done this kind of canvas before. Please share this video to another artist that may need to know how to do it. I love sharing useful art info! Flowers represent to me in unfolding of self. An untangling of the layers we call life. Venerability is essential for growth. We cannot move forward and unfurl our petals unless we are open. I’ve painted these peonies before and I will probably paint them again. This time in showing my marks and the writing I’ve been incorporated into my works. Those are little letters to myself, small prayers, wishes, dreams. They are covered by transparent layers but slightly visible. They are windows open to me, my thoughts, and aspirations. I feel like they add a layer of intimacy to my works. I’ve experimented on smaller works but I feel like I needed to break out and share on a larger level. Thanks for following along.
